NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Damilano, a leading Barolo producer in the northwestern Italian region of Piedmont, will be the exclusive wine partner for ten Fridays Under 40 pre-performance events at the New York City Metropolitan Opera, a non-profit organization.
The Fridays Under 40 series is in its second season at the opera, and includes a pre-show party and later curtain time of 8:00 P.M. exclusively for audiences aged 40 and under. The series was created in hopes of attracting a younger audience to opera, and expects to draw about 200 guests per show. Tickets are discounted for the ten 2016/2017 dates of the series; $60 for the Orchestra and $100 for the Grand Tier. Performances include Mozart's Don Giovanni, Verdi's Aida, Bizet's Carmen, and many more.
As the exclusive wine partner for the pre-show parties, Damilano will provide two wines: Damilano Arneis 2015 and Damilano Nebbiolo Langhe Marghe 2013. Both the Arneis and Nebbiolo grapes are native to Piedmont, with Nebbiolo being the base for Damilano's highly-esteemed Barolo wines. "For Damilano winery, it is a tremendous honor to be partnered with one of the most important theaters in the world," says Paolo Damilano, co-owner of Damilano Barolo. "We are thrilled to build a connection with the newest generation of wine drinkers through the celebrated Italian arts of wine and opera."
Damilano is one of the oldest wineries in the Barolo area of Piedmont with history dating back to 1890. Today it is managed by the Damilano family, in its fourth generation of ownership. Damilano wines are cultivated from 130 acres of prestigious vineyards in and around Barolo, with wines of note including the four single vineyard crus of Cannubi, Liste, Brunate, and Cerequio. Damilano is imported into the United States by Vias Imports Ltd., a mid-sized Italian wine importer and distributor in the New York City metropolitan area.
