  • The Bankside Power Station was built as a cathedral of power in 1963, but closed in 1981. It reopened as one of Europes finest modern art galleries in 2000. The Turbine Hall is 35m high.
  • The Tate boat, decorated by coloured spots inspired by Damien Hirst, travels every 40 minutes from Tate Modern - the world's most visited art gallery in its renovated power station - to Tate Britain.

  • You can enter Tate Modern for free except for major exhibitions or events. Tote Modern open from 10:00am until 6:00pm on week days.

  • Housed in a former Power Station beside the Thames, Britain's national museum of modern art displays everything from Picasso to Warhol. Entry is free but special exhibitions will require tickets.
