Foursquare Tips

  • Just like your boyfriend, this meal will not fulfill you.
  • When I first came the menu was awesome and they played soul music. Now they serve Applebee's style dishes and play multiple Maroon 5 songs each hour. If that's your jam, enjoy.
  • The Tavern's namesake, Robert Gould Shaw, commander of the all-black Massachusetts 54th Regiment during the Civil War, was played by Matthew Broderick in the 1989 movie Glory.
  • Try the homemade macaroni and cheese or chili!
  • The staff is so nice and super accommodating, love it here.
  • So many hooks under the bar! Welcome to hook heaven.
  • I am BEGGING to see Butterscotch Pudding back on the menu. Please.
  • Every meal and side has mustard in it. Yuck!
  • Sample the Southern-tinged dinner dishes, and a cocktail menu named for the 54th regiment, one of the first African American units in the Civil War.
  • One of my fav DC hangout spots
  • You get 3 choices of a base pizza: Red, White or Green. Go for the white. The three cheese combo adds tons of flavor no matter what you put on top. Green is the most bland--it's spinach not pesto.
  • The Shaw burger is delicious!! Great beer list too!!
  • Omg Amanda is the best
  • Best grilled cheese I've ever had.
  • Blackened cat fish is great. The mashed sweet potatoes with it are great. Also nice to sit outside or by a window.
  • It will take you an average of 6 months to get your food here. Don't come hungry
  • Beer and cocktail selection: great. Food: don't bother. you'll be disappointed.
  • The truffle fries are very tasty.
  • Yummy Pork Tenderloin!! Rib special is delicious. Friendly wait staff!
  • Piano bar theme on wednesdays.get lucky on Fridays/Saturdays with live music. Brunch is not too shabby either. Love this place.
