The hype is back! Russian River Pliny the Younger Oregon tappings are beginning to be announced for the world famous Triple IPA. Every year in mid-February Russian River Brewing of Santa Rosa, California, releases the amped up version of Pliny the Elder to huge crowds and lines around the block that take hours to get through. A few weeks later, a handful of kegs start showing up in Oregon, most if not all in the Portland area at key Columbia Distributing accounts. These tappings are rare, sometimes secret, sometimes ticketed events, and the beer often goes quickly. As we do each year, we will try to keep an updated list of known Pliny the Younger tappings. So far we have our first two and we will update this post as more tappings are announced.

Eugene’s The Bier Stein is selling tickets for $8 for a .25L glass. $3 of each ticket purchased goes to charity. This year, instead of choosing one charity, they picked three nonprofits to represent– Friends of Trees, Occupy Medical, and Sevadog Eugene. Ticket holders may decide where to direct the proceeds by putting their ticket stub into a labeled bucket, and they will donate accordingly.
You may purchase multiple tickets to give to your friends, but the beer is limited to one glass per person. Pliny the Younger will be on tap when The Bier Stein opens on Tuesday 2/24. Any beer not claimed by tickets will be up for purchase on Wednesday 2/25.
