Rainbow Grilled Cheese Is The Newest Multicolored Comfort Food Trend
Move over rainbow bagels and rainbow pizza dough; it's time for the next colorful carb creation: rainbow grilled cheese. KALA Toast in Hong Kong's multicolored grilled cheese is taking the Internet by storm. The bright blue, pink, purple, and green-hued melted cheese toastie may look like a Salvador Dali rendition of an Easter egg, but each color actually represents four different flavored cheeses. For instance, the green is basil and the pink is tomato, while the blue/purple is lavender.
The whole sandwich will cost you about $2 HKD (or $5 USD), but unfortunately, according to one Instagram reviewer, this grilled cheese does not taste like springtime and unicorn breath.
"The toast was crispy but I reckon both the flavor of the lavender and tomato were subtle," Instagram user hkfoodiexblogger said. "The basil flavor was the most outstanding one comparatively but the cheese flavor still was not as storing [sic] as my expectation. It was also a bit oily in general. I would say the quality was rather average but we all cannot deny that it is photogenic."
Sounds like a bummer, but since these rainbow cheesy delights are so photogenic, we're going to treat you to a few more photos of their beauty:
