The price we’re paying at the gas pump continues falling to near historic lows. According to GasBuddy.com’s Gregg Laskosky, in metro Atlanta the lowest price for a gallon of regular is at a Marathon station in Stockbridge near I-75. He says a Valero station on East Lake Road in McDonough has it at $2.46, and a Texaco in Rex has a gallon of regular at $2.49.
According to Laskosky the lowest price in Georgia is at a Costco in Ringgold that has gasoline at $2.34 a gallon.
Laskosky is a senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com. He says it’s been an extraordinary year for oil production. According to Laskosky, “In the United States, we’ve seen more oil production this year since 1986.” He adds that even though we would have expected gas prices to decline in the fourth quarter, as they always do when winter-blend gasoline goes into the market, “this year we’re seeing an even greater decrease because of the price war that’s going on between the U.S. and OPEC.”
When I checked out some prices at stations in our area Thursday afternoon, I found a gallon of regular at $2.85 at the Chevron located at Northside Parkway and West Paces Ferry Road, across the street at Shell, it was the same price. I headed up I-75, got off at Windy Hill Road and found a gallon of regular gasoline at $2.59. That was at the BP at Windy Hill and Leland Drive.
