The Civic Taproom near downtown Portland and the Timbers field Providence Park is finally open giving those in Northwest and Southwest Portland a new option for taps and bottles. As first mentioned back in August The Civic Taproom is right next door to Providence Park on SW 19th less than a block off of W. Burnside and gives a great craft beer option where there was not much of one before. Featuring a digital tapboard of 22 taps, 16 of them draft beer and cider, 2 of them dedicated to nitro beers, 2 to white wine and 2 for red wine.
Located a block over from Providence Park in the new Civic Building with apartments above and shops below the Civic is primed to be packed for games. Even if your not at the stadium they have five flat screen tv’s to catch games on while enjoying a beer, wine or cider at the taproom. While beer does take up the majority of the focus I was surprised/impressed to find 6 taps with cider and 4 with wines so they can really please a broader audience.
Right now Civic Taproom is stocking about 250 bottles of beer, cider and some wine but plan to get up to about 400. They have around 30 different cider bottles and will scale that up to about 50 and there are about 30 white wines and 30 red wines by bottle too. They are mostly concentrating on local producers with a few carefully selected options from out of the region.
The centerpiece of Civic Taproom is the bar which seats 14 people, two of those are ADA accessible. There are 5 tall pub tables and a banquet bench seat, not a ton of seating but I expect standing room only on some game nights and they could definitely add more tall tables. They will also have some room to put seats outside on the sidewalk, about 20 of them and they hope to be able to get the permit to build sen-permanent street seats in the outside parking area.
Civic Taproom will have meet the brewer nights every Thursday beginning in January with about 3 breweries to 1 cidery being showcased each month.
Civic Taproom & Bottleshop’s Grand Opening is Saturday December 20th all day. Featuring Buoy Brewing, Mazama Brewing, and Rev. Nat’s Cider with drafts, free samples and an all-day “Civic Duty Hour” (Happy Hour), which is $1 off anything on draft. FYI Civic Taproom has no food options but you can bring stuff in.
Our Grand Opening event will be held on Saturday the 20th all day. We will be featuring Buoy Brewing, Mazama Brewing, and Rev. Nat’s Cider. We plan to have a few selections from each producer plus have them present to provide tastes to people of their line of products.
