Foursquare Tips

  • Amazing national park. Really tells the story of the battle and then the surrender of the southern army. Does a great job of explaining the aftermath and ending of the war. Worth a visit for all.
  • Step foot in the place where the Civil War ended, a must do if in the area. Make it a point to watch the film, very much worth it.
  • Be sure to see the actual "flag of truce" in the visitor's center
  • If it's summer and you have children, consider combining this visit with a trip to Holliday Lake State Park, which is right down the road a tad further. History + Splashing In A Lake = Great Trip!
  • Site of the original village of Appomattox Courthouse. Here, Generals Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant negotiated the terms of surrender which led to the end of the war between the states.
