Tips

  • The Special Pondicherry Dosa and a Samosa is a good place to start, though you should try it all. Just be prepared to wait on line. It is a good idea to go a little ahead or after the main lunch rush.
  • Thiru won the citywide Vendy Cup in 2007 for his dosas!
  • Filling + cheap $5 lunch in the village. Masala Dosa w/ coconut chutney and a side dish (hot soup when I went!). Eat in WashSqrPark + watch seasoned chess players hustle oncoming tourists. Bliss.
  • This entirely vegan cart is beloved by all in the Village. Try the vegan drumsticks or the uthappam, a pizza-like offering.
  • Featured in Lonely Planet's 1000 Ultimate Experiences.
  • The Pondicherry dosa might be my favorite NY street cart food. You don't need to wait in line to get samosas, though, so do that if the line's too long.
  • Got #3 pondicherry and made it spicy. The result?? Love ittttt especially when its only $6!
  • Lines can get long at this dosa and samosa cart off Washington Square Park, but they're worth it.
  • Known simply as The Dosa Cart. Thiru who prepares the food is just wonderful, serving up each meal with a smile. Get the masala dosa with coconut chutney and devour it on a bench in Washington Square.
  • Try the samosa chaat. Delicious!
  • Get the masala dosa. Good lunch for the price (comes with chutney and a small side).
  • Far and away best streetfood in NYU/WVillage vicinity, never mind that it's vegan. And the operator, Thiru, is kind & chatty.
  • get a drumstick. they are awesome.
  • Special Pondicherry dosa
  • Very friendly person .. dosa are yum and affordable too..
  • Legendary Vegan dosa food cart. Look for the line. Well worth the wait. Don't forget to tip, doesn't get better than this.
  • Best dosas and friendliest service in New York. Check twitter to make sure he's in the park before heading over.
  • Always get extra spicy. Wonderful person, amazing food. Can't go wrong with dosa.
  • Ask for kothu roti and he'll make it for you!
  • Skip the line, get a Samosa. One and you're full
