Tips

  • On the Southern-inspired menu: Wings, fried chicken and fried pork chops. Every morning, chef Dindyal estimates he makes 40 servings of the cornbread to complement the soul food.
  • Good fried pork chops, great when owner is cooking them.
  • Get the chicken, but be warned, it's the whole chicken.
  • Absolutely some of the best fried chicken Ive ever had!
  • Southern cookin' & Soul food for DC! Really like Moms... collards, chicken chicken to mac or just anything - it's gooood! Highly recommended. The hospitality is great too!
  • The owner brings some of his Indian dishes from his old restaurant, in addition to all the southern options. The shrimp curry was wonderful. Ask for any daily specials for more.
  • Try the corn bread. A bit sweet but moist. The fried chicken is good with broccoli.
  • Lazy Sunday afternoons are best spent on a breezy patio with a plate of fried-to-order chicken and a large glass of sweet tea. Don't skimp on the sides.
  • Out of the way Southern food. Good fried chicken and cornbread so moist you won't need butter.
  • The chicken and collards are great! Avoid the mashed potatoes, though - they're literally just a skinless baked potato smushed up with a fork on a saucer, no moisture or seasoning.
  • New ownership, place looks nice with upgrades, but quality and quantity of food is terrible. I will not be coming here again.
  • The Fried Chicken dinner is nice.
  • They do eggs and grits with anything else -- I got fried chicken -- some of the best in the city!
  • Triple decker BLT - a sandwich full of awesome. But don't expect the service to be speedy.
  • Just okay I have had better. Don't get the mac and cheese it needs seasoning.
  • The Hitching Post has some of the area's best (and underrated Soul Food). It has been run by the same couple for at least 20 years. Be sure to try the fried chicken dinner. Note that portions here are
