Tips

  • Vegans rejoice! The pea fritters were phenomenal; add the mild hot sauce to bring out the flowers. The banana bread is not to be missed ( but definitely share).
  • West Africa meets Europe, Asia, and the Tropics at this cafe in the Warehouse District, offering a range of non gut-busting dishes. [Eater 38 Member]
  • What ever the soup of the day is... GET IT!!!
  • Great fresh sandwiches and interesting salads!
  • Good healthy options. And they are super nice!
  • Cafe Carmo's smoked yellowfin tuna makes it into a unique gumbo.
  • The Rico was outstanding!! Perfect combo of sweet and savory and the vegan meat was incredible
  • Had the Rice noodle salad and banana bread; both were delicious
  • Vegetarian-friendly and green restaurant with unique flavors - don't miss!
  • AMAZING blue crab & hatch green chile soup!! Its on special so may not be available all the time
  • Try the Rico Sandwich
  • Great menu w/ well-marked vegan options. Carmo & Esmeralda salads are heavier on the grains than the greens.
  • Cafe Carmo's Rico sandwich is a plantain pancake topped with pork or mock meat. - Gambit's Five in 5
  • The Rico is one of the greatest dishes I have ever had anywhere. I had it with pork but there's a vegan and a vegetarian option too! The staff here is wonderful. Very nice and helpful.
  • Try sitting in the side room; there's tons of room to spread out. As for food, the vegan acaraje is out of this world!
  • Mofongo is a typical PR food made from fried plantain. Their version is actually sweet plantain stuffed with sweet pork as well. But the waitress was nice about it and they put my dish by the house.
  • The vegetarian Rico is the tastiest vegetarian thing I've ever eaten
  • My friend and I had different salads, and they were amazing!
  • Veggie King sandwich is a sleeper hit
  • Great vegetarian and vegan friendly spot! Interesting flavors and not too pricey.
