Tips

  • Red Cat is one of the NYT restaurant critic Sam Siftons 50 favorite NYC restaurants. To see the full list, get The Scoop iPhone app, an inside guide to New York: NYTimes.com/thescoop
  • Order The Dirty Burger loaded with VT cheddar, grilled onions, and a fried egg. Also: their Tasty Burger with bacon is, well, quite tasty.
  • Gourmet cuisine for all your locavore desires.
  • Ted Allen's favorite, on Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate, is The Red Cat, a local legend serving sauteed zucchini, seared tuna, and everything in-between. Find more tips at FN Local
  • Of the appetizers my favorites were the buratta, fried green beans, and scallop risotto.
  • If you sit at the bar and order wisely, you can certainly eke out a meal for not much more than $15/head. It was a light meal, we were certainly full when we left, and more than satisfied.
  • Chelsea's best kept secret. Fantastic food and service.
  • Back before the overpriced condos and trendmongers of the Meatpacking, Red Cat was making delicious, creative New American cuisine for the art gallery set and other locals. Still as good as ever.
  • Favorite neighborhood spot.
  • Best homeade gingerale, carrot cake, radish bar snacks. Currently enjoying the Cranberry side car....delish
  • Great menu, wholesome american cuisine, and a place you could go back to over and over again.
  • The skate is a pretty solid fish choice.
  • Use the bathroom furthest from the entrance - the photo opposite the toilet will make you giggle.
  • This Chelsea stalwart opened in 1999, when New Yorks gallery scene was still transitioning to Chelsea. Now, the cozy restaurant is an art world dining institution.
  • Fried green beans=must have.
  • Fried oyster sammy is the bomb
  • Rarely would you choose to order something as simple + ordinary as a BLT at a restaurant of this caliber, but the BLT here is out of this world perfect w/ an unusual twist of dates for added sweetness
  • Get the fontina cheese. And for a Lo-carb decadent app eat it with the the radishes instead of the bread.
  • Everything's good. They'll serve their great burger (a bar special) anywhere in the restaurant, just ask for it. You'll have to ask for their excellent herbed fries on the side.
  • THE BEST. So fresh and tasty. Always love the radishes.
