Tips

  • If you oust me as mayor of Pilar I will treat you to your next dinner there.
  • Love pulled pork? Definitely try the one served here! Its so good!
  • Grilled Cheese and Plantain: A heaping mound of shredded cheddar and Gruyre melted into an oozy pool kept in check by butter-soaked grain bread, and the soft fried plantains added sweetness and heft.
  • They're moving to a new location on 1/25/15 I think. I walked by and the sign said Greene and Bedford. I love the cortaditos and the ropa vieja.
  • You're not going to do better than this. Stop looking. On a hot day the iced cafe con leche will have you hallucinating.
  • Pilar was the name of the boat Hemingway owned while in Havana and it just so happens the boat was built in Brooklyn (c. 1936). Check out the daily specials.
  • Get the potage de garbanzo...smoky and hearty enough for a light meal.
  • Informal and small eatery serving up the best Pressed Cuban Sandwiches and Pernil - also try the Elena Ruth and finish it off with a slice of Key Lime Pie.
  • Wow. This is really good coffee!!
  • Had a great Cuban sandwich. Suuuuper yummy. And those plantane chips are
  • The BEST Cuban sandwich, pernil, flan, the croquettes are to die for and the breakfast empanadas (with chorizo) is my all time favorite!!!
  • Veggie plate is vegan / vegetarian and includes black beans, rice, sweet plantains, fried yuca, tomato, and avocado. It's heaven. The air conditioning is pretty stellar as well.
  • Best black beans and rice I've had in NYC. Will def be coming back often...
  • Vaca Frita on Wednesdays, Boliche on Saturdays, key lime pie always.
  • Try the pernil- it is crazy good.
  • The Caldo Gallego is the best soup I've ever had.
  • Must try: crack grilled cheese sandwich and the potato leek croquettes are the best! Ricardo's soups are the besssssst! Paella on Friday is amazing!!!!
  • Lovely interior feels like youre in the Caribbean. Food (including brunch and dinner) never disappoints. Always fresh, flavorful, and colorful.
  • Tasty food and good vibe
  • Caf con leche is the perfect drink for a cold winter winter day
