BOSTON (CBS) – Phantom recently purchased four mint chocolate cookies from a local supermarket. The refreshingly indulgent contenders were Back to Nature, Keebler Grasshopper, Oreo and Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies.
See if you can guess which of these cookies crumbled, and which one ended up at the top of the food chain.
Keebler Grasshopper finished in last place. These small, thin wafer cookies are enrobed in a waxy fudge coating that delivers disappointment instead of chocolate. The cookie itself had a pleasant enough crunch and decent mint flavor. But in the end, Phantom thinks the Keebler elves need to go back to the workshop and try again.
A step up from there is Back to Nature, with a cookie that’s free from artificial preservatives, flavors, colors and high fructose corn syrup. These dark disks deliver deep chocolate flavor and have a nice hit of mint, along with a pleasantly crispy cookie.
The runner up is Pepperidge Farm. Everyone knows their Milano cookies are a fantastic, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth treat. But in this taste test, they don’t take the top spot. These are definitely some high quality cookies, but they just didn’t have the strong chocolate and mint flavors Phantom was looking for. That said, Phantom still had to stop himself from eating the entire bag.
At the top of the food chain is Oreo. When it comes to guilty pleasures, this brand knows what it’s doing. It all started with an easy open pull tab so you can get to the cookies quickly. The rows of dark cookie and wonderful artificially green filling are a feast for the eyes. When it comes to taste, the filling is thick, creamy and exploding with minty goodness.
These cookies offer up everything you love about original Oreos with a refreshing mint kick, putting mint crème Oreo cookies at the top of the food chain.
