Tips

  • The 57-acre campus has 11 exhibit areas and occupies the grounds of what was the Southern Railway Co.s largest steam locomotive repair shop.
  • Had a great time! Loved the train ride ,even though its short, and loved looking at the restored rail cars!

  • Train ride was excellent for the money. I purchased a ticket to ride in locomotive cab during the ride. I will remember for the rest of my life!
  • Besides trains they have older cars, fire trucks, and planes too!
  • This a great place, VERY interesting, wonderful for kids. Very educational about trains and railroads. Be sure to check out the old luxury train cars, they are awesome. I HIGHLY recommend this place.

  • Don't come out here for the day out with Thomas it's a waste of time and tweetsie railroad a much better experience
  • Due to state budget cutbacks, the museum now charges admission. $10 for adults, which includes train ride ticket. More info on the museum's website.
  • Stop by the NC Transportation Museum and ride the train.
  • The train ride is not all it's cracked up to be. Just goes about a mile down the track, then backs up, and not much to see along the track. Save the money and enjoy all the free exhibits.
