Foursquare Tips

  • The gumbo is a great way to start your meal!
  • If you're used to the Rush location, beware: cash only, and extremely limited menu.
  • Order chicken fried steak. If you're fish/shellfish allergic like me, the chicken & andouille sausage gumbo is a tasty substitute for any of the gumbos w/shrimp w/out feeling like you're missing out.
  • Gumbo, jambalaya, corn bread, collard greens. This is my favorite spot in the entire city, truly a hidden gem.
  • The gumbo and shrimp and corn chowder are tremendous. Great service. Cash only so be prepared.
  • You won't have enough stomach to try everything that you should. This place is a hidden classic for good reason.
  • Chummy seventh-floor Loop lunch spot renowned for its gumbos thicker than quicksand and po boys rich in breaded oysters, shrimp, and catfish.
  • The gumbo and southern fried chicken are to die for!!
  • The jambalaya is one of my favorite comfort foods (w a cup o' gumbo, of course). The LSD (Louisiana Soul Deluxe) is great, too. Go during Thanksgiving week to get a turkey dinner unlike any other!
  • get the pecan pie!!! also the quesadilla is big enough for two as a light meal.
  • Good food, been around a long time, this is the original location which serves better food than the chain locations. The Gumbo is what everyone goes there for, so give it a try.
  • The Bitches Say: A. Come here for no frills, all fun, and darn delicious Cajun brunch cuisine, stay for the hurricanes and Bloody Marys. Come again for Jimmy Bannos, because he is just a gem.
  • Look through the hot sauces on the table: ghost, scorpion, reaper! Yeah, that's how it works.
  • Delicious breakfast. Excellent cheese grits. Great Bloody Mary cocktails.
  • Top 5 Greatest places in Chicago for a shrimp po boy
  • Gumbo the best
  • Absolutely loved the gumbo! I think my taste buds are completely shot, tho; the shrimp linguini was really good, but the Angry Sauce (supposedly the hottest) was nothing ...
  • Epic Chicago institution. Get the gumbo and an oyster po' boy.
  • Yes please. Gumbo is to die for. I recommend the "slap my ass and call me Sally" hot sauce, it is also fantastic.
  • A little taste of New Orleans in Chicago hidden away on the 7th Floor. They had all the classics which were cooked perfectly.
