Menu

Tips

  • Vegetables (a.k.a. dirt candy) are the stars of this menu, and as freaky as it may sound, one of the best dishes is (drumroll): tiramisu with eggplant.
  • Amanda Cohen's fun and whimsical temple to vegetables without pretense. Don't miss the hush puppies and save room for dessert.
  • Chef Amanda Cohen was the first vegetarian chef on Iron Chef America & has one of the most energy efficient kitchens in NYC, w/ an induction stove & self-filtering fryer.
  • Each entree features iterations on a single ingredient - you had no idea there were so many ways to prepare cauliflower! Added bonus: just about everything on the menu can be prepared vegan.
  • Grilled eggplant tiramisu with rosemary cotton candy. You have to try it to believe it
  • This popular vegetarian restaurant will satisfy even the most-stubborn meat-lover! Only downside is that the place is tiny, so be sure to book a table well in advance.
  • Winner of Best Vegetarian in the Village Voice 2011 Best Of issue! The jalopeno hush puppies are ruinously addictive.
  • Check out spunky chef, Amanda Cohens blog on the Dirt Candy website. Shes so passionate. - Inspector
  • Chef-owner Amanda Cohen on why she doesn't serve meat: "Meat is such a strong flavor that it takes away from vegetables and were trying to show you how good vegetables can be on their own."
  • The parsnip dish is like gnocchi. So. good.
  • Get the cauliflower and waffles. Your taste buds will thank you.
  • The Bitches say: A+. This brunch was fantastic - each dish wasmemorable and unique, and left us refreshed for our day in the city. We cant wait to come back!
  • Get the tasting menu, you won't be disappointed--stuffed, but not disappointed. And this place is amazing whether you're a vegetarian or not (I'm not).
  • DIY hot stone brussel sprout tacos!
  • Interesting, tasty, fancy, playful vegetarian dishes. Not everything was amazing, but I liked what they were doing.
  • One of the best veggie meals I ever had! #nyc
  • Truly one of the most incredible meals I've had. You just don't miss the meat - and in fact, is a win that it's not there. Spectacular!!!
  • Very small and hip vegetarian spot with many vegan options. Make reservations well in advance! The mushroom appetizer rules.
  • Chef Amanda Cohen turns vegetables into the food of the Vegetarian Gods at her restaurant on 9th Street. Expect to be wowed by what she can do with tomatoes, eggplant, and a little cheese.
  • Absolutely gorgeous everything, from service to presentation to first and last bite. Couldn't think of a better place for a vegan birthday dinner.
