Tips

  • Order a single malt Scotch off the bar's extensive list -- if you've never had a Laphraoig 10, see if you like one of the smokiest, peatiest, most challenging Scotches out there.
  • The mussels came in a swimming pool sized vat of garlicy buttery perfection. This place was a great find.
  • First Thursday of every month, Merlins Rest holds a sampling session of their large variety of scotches at 7:30.
  • Be on the lookout for Aaron Landry.
  • Talk to John Dingley about Welsh cut glass.
  • Dark and convivial, with servers and patrons obsessed with good conversation and great Scotch, Merlin's Rest is an eerily authentic pub considering its East Lake Street location.
  • Best regulars in the metro!
  • On Mpls St Paul's list of Insider Eats for single malt goodness. They have an impressive selection of scotch & Irish whiskies
  • Skip the Old Fashioned. Basically a whiskey and soda. Weak and dry.
  • Strongbowwwwwe
  • Fish and chips. All the way.
  • Pub Quiz is super fun. Food is decent. Beer selection is great.
  • Get your Fish & Chips (British style) and pair it with a good scotch. Also enjoy the Wednesday Night trivia. It's a great way to spend an evening with friends.
  • Get a laphroaig quartercask, not the 10 year.
  • use the bathroom before you go, because Merlin's Restroom is a single stall...
  • DEFINITELY get the fish & chips.
  • I'm about to punch a bagpipe player. Drink the $$$$$$$$$$ scotch and you'll understand.
  • Try a Scottish egg. Eat it with a Black Velvet.
  • Go to the Wednesday Night Pub Quiz and figure out Bill's theme for the night. That's the key to winning.
  • Have Wild Bill Watkins tell you a story.
