The Week’s Most Intriguing Burgers 2/12

The variety in this week’s burgers is especially appealing. There’s bison and brisket, slides and a breakfast sandwich, truffled mashed potatoes and Cheddar popcorn. When people ask what I mean by intriguing, I may just have to send them here. I’m trying a different format for the Intriguing roundup here, one that allows a little background and context.

↑For a new brunch menu at its Astoria, N.Y., location, Bareburger created a breakfast sandwich it calls The Cuckoo’s Nest: Fried egg in onion ring, brisket & potato hash, aged Cheddar and habanero mayo on a brioche bun.

↑Bottlefork in Chicago celebrates Truffle Tuesdays and Burger Mondays. The two came together in this burger: Tallgrass beef patty topped with truffled mashed potatoes, white Cheddar, gravy and fried shallots.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar
↑I wouldn’t think chicken, pastrami and beer-braised sauerkraut would make an ideal trio but Hopdoddy Burger Bar in Austin, Texas, says they do, and I won’t argue. The Boris Burger has those three ingredients plus Swiss cheese and Russian dressing, all on an egg bun.

Burger & Co.

↑Burger & Co. in Kielce, Poland, does a special €12 ($13.63) burger every Tuesday. This week’s good-looking build: Beef, house-made bourbon barbecue sauce, bacon, cheese, onions, Cheddar popcorn with turmeric and cayenne pepper, mayo and pickles.

 Eden Burger Bar

↑Eden Burger in Glendale, Calif., does a lot of specials (recently a Mac ‘N Cheese Burger) and features a Bison Burger on its permanent menu. The build includes on-trend harissa as an aïoli plus sun-dried tomato, mesquite peppers, tobacco onion and grass-fed Cheddar on a bison patty.

↑Rok:Brgr Burger Bar + Gastropub in South Miami is always trying something new on its brunch and lunch/dinner menus. The latest creations are Pimiento Cheese Sliders made with house signature Prime Blend topped with house-made pimiento cheese and roasted jalapeños.

↑The Burger of the Week specials at Moaburger in Krakow, Poland, are like no others, in name and ingredients. The only way to top the previous Prunes & Almond Lamb Burger was with its new Popeye the Burger Man. The build: a 200g (7.1-oz.) beef or chicken patty with house aïoli, creamy feta cheese, spinach leaves, pesto, tomato, red onion and tomato relish.

Dukes Burgers

↑A delightful example of burger globalism is the Fidel Castro Burger at Dukes Burgers in Johannesburg, South Africa, where ostrich is always a protein option. The Fidel, however, starts with a hearty beef patty flamed in tequila that is topped with house tomato relish, jalapeňos, a spicy tomato & baby corn salsa and cucumber ribbons.
