Since 1968, those looking for healthy food in Minneapolis have headed straight to Tao Natural Foods. Located on Hennepin Avenue, the storefront is actually divided in half: one half is a health food store, specializing in vitamins, supplements, natural creams, essential oils, homeopathic remedies, and herbs, and the other half is an organic restaurant.
The menu at the restaurant is wholesome, healthy, and delicious. Breakfast offerings include a housemade multigrain waffle (with whole wheat, flax, oats, millet, and sunflower seeds); multigrain oatmeal and housemade granola; vegan chili, salads, and sandwiches including a tempeh Reuben, sweet potato burrito, and made-from-scratch black bean burgers; and vegetarian entrées, including a vegetable or avocado rice plate and The Royale, steamed vegetables, black beans, avocado, sauerkraut, and flax oil on brown rice.
The offerings at Tao Natural Foods’ café are healthy to the max, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a restaurant in town where so many organic dishes, from the black bean burgers to the waffles, are made from scratch.
