SEATTLE, Dec. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- PicoBrew, Inc., maker of the multiple award-winning Pico™ and Zymatic ™ craft beer brewing appliances, announced today a new sous vide water-bath cooking capability for the Pico device, which is now shipping to consumers.

The PicoBrew Pico is the world's first consumer countertop craft beer brewing appliance. It automatically brews five liter mini-kegs (equivalent to a 14-pack) of fresh craft beer from over 150 global award-winning craft breweries. Pico allows even those who have never brewed before to create great tasting beer their very first time, in the comfort of their own home. PicoBrew's mission is to get the world brewing, allowing customers to enjoy the beer they want to drink and pair them with foods they savor.

"With the addition of the sous vide cooking feature to the Pico, PicoBrew really has created the 'uber appliance' for the kitchen," said Dr. Bill Mitchell, CEO of PicoBrew. Customers can now enjoy not only exquisite, hard to find and custom-made craft beer fresh on tap, but they can also cook delectable steaks, seafood and even veggies using the same Pico appliance.

Sous vide is a proven gourmet cooking technique that entails the sealing of food inside vacuum bags then cooking them while submerged in a water-bath at relatively low cooking temperatures. Precise temperatures and the slower cooking allows moisture to be retained in the food while achieving very uniform heating and tender, delicately flavored results.

PicoBrew's flagship product, the Zymatic, gained a sous vide capability late in its development cycle in 2013. PicoBrew co-founder Jim Mitchell, a gourmet cook himself, added the feature for his own enjoyment, but it quickly became so popular that the company released the capability as a software update. Pico uses a different heating solution to brew beer, so the technology to sous vide with the machine had to be reinvented from scratch. Jim and the PicoBrew team were able to design the feature however, and now Pico is capable of both brewing great beer and cooking great food.

Pico Kickstarter customers will start receiving their sous vide adapters from PicoBrew this week, followed by an over-the-air software update. Those who purchased Pico during the pre-order stage and then those who purchased Pico during the first few weeks of general availability will receive their adapters next. All new Pico orders will include the Pico sous vide adapter.

Pico is available for purchase online at www.picobrew.com or at these fine retailers: Bloomingdale's, Sur La Table, Williams-Sonoma, Best Buy, Frontgate, and Amazon. Pico is available in 110v or 220v options for domestic and international users.
