Ohio-based Fat Head’s Brewery announced it will open its highly anticipated new Portland brewpub on Monday, November 3rd, in the Pearl District. With a recent Gold Medal win at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival (Alpenglow Weizenbock, German-Style Wheat Ale) and good word of mouth about the Head Hunter IPA, Fat Head’s has managed to build up some hype in the skeptical minds of Oregon beer geeks.
Head Brewmaster Matt Cole has relocated to Portland to set up the 10 barrel brewery with 13 fermenters and 12 bright tanks that should allow the brewery to brew all of its beer in-house, with just a little bit leftover for specialty accounts. Cole also notes that there will be a heavy focus on indigenous ingredients, so the Portland location will experience some completely different brews than its Cleveland counterpart; for example, Zoobomb Dortmunder is in the works — named after the weekly downhill bike ride. Patrons can expect 42 rotating beers on tap, from Fat Head’s and other guest breweries across Oregon and all over the world.
The full restaurant at Fat Head’s PDX will seat 278, with a food menu focusing on the standard pub grub and as many local ingredients used as possible. The Fat Head’s team has been busy recruiting the pub staff from veterans of the local field, including neighboring Deschutes brewpub and others.
I will be visiting Fat Head’s new Portland location within the next week for a more in-depth preview of the new Pearl District pub, located at 131 NW 13th Ave (at Davis St), Portland, OR 97209. The restaurant will open daily at 11 am. Children’s menu upon request. Gluten Free and vegetarian friendly options. Takeout is also available. Major credit cards are accepted.
