Gingerbread Pain Perdu
My chef from the Ritz Carlton and I created this recipe together. Serve with Mapleland Farms maple syrup or The Hamptons honey and fresh berries. I like them with bananas Foster as a decadent way to kick off the weekend.Adapted from "Fresh from the Market" by Laurent Tourondel and Charlotte March.

gingerbread
A much-loved spicy bread, gingerbread was sold at fairs and markets, and given to children as a treat. There are many references to it in old cookery books  — in fact, ground ginger was almost as popular as caraway seeds. This recipe is particularly delicious. Check out these Lessons in Irish Cooking. Gingerbread House
Making and decorating gingerbread houses are a classic Christmas activity for all ages. When planning to make houses, set aside a few days for the project. The honey dough needs to rest overnight, and once the pieces are baked, allow them to cool for at least 4 hours. Allow the “mortar” icing to completely dry and harden before decorating. Make sure you have lots of fun candies and trimmings on hand for decorating. We love using pretzels for logs, or wheat cereals for roofs. An upside-down sugar cone makes a perfect Christmas tree decoration, too! Click here for a printable template. Adapted from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
