Top Rated Chuck Roast Recipes

There are two types of chili recipes out there. There's the type that's made with ground beef, diced peppers and onions, and a store-bought spice package; and then there's the type that doesn't just have you brown the meat, but roast it, calls for more than one spicy pepper, not just bell, and uses things like beer, coffee, and Mexican chocolate to create a bold, flavorful chili with moist and tender meat. This recipe is the latter.

Spicy Hungarian Goulash
I love this dish in late fall and winter. It is a great warming dish that is perfect for cold nights. I’ve been eating this for as long as I can remember. The best I’ve ever had was at a German restaurant near where I grew up called the Alpenhof. The restaurant has since closed, but the memory of this soup will remain with me forever. Whenever we ate there my family always started with the goulash. This is my version of this spicy beef stew. Serve it over some buckwheat spätzle for an entrée sized portion. If you’re having more people, then simply double the recipe.

Beef Barley Soup
I think beef barley soup gets a bad rap sometimes. Let’s face it… it's brown, kind of drab looking, and something we've all eaten since we were kids. It doesn't have a bunch of fancy ingredients in it. In fact, it's usually a soup that we throw together using a cut of beef that's usually on sale, chuck roast. So it's one of those dollar-stretching recipes. But why not make a homemade soup that's a little more special than what you are used to eating? If you're making it yourself, you can do things that make the ho-hum more hoo-hah! See all beef recipes. Click here to see Reinventing Campbell's Soups at Home.
