  • Attracting 8.6 million visitors annually, Navy Pier is Chicago's lakefront playground. It was designed for shipping and recreation and has evolved into a major Midwest leisure destination.
  • In a suspenseful scene, which was shot at Navy Pier for "The Dark Knight", the Joker (Heath Ledger) pits two ferries full of people - one loaded with citizens, one with prisoners, against each other.
  • The first Ferris wheel made its debut in Chicago at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Today, Navy Pier is home to a 15-story Ferris wheel, modeled after the original one.
  • Check out the Stained Glass Museum
  • Did you know? Outside of housing recreational facilities the Pier has been the home to, at various points in its history, a university, an emergency hospital, Naval training facilities, and a library.
  • Today Navy Pier is a premiere tourist destination, and is home to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Chicago Children's Museum, an IMAX Theater, Pier Park, the free Smith Museum of Stained Glass & more.
  • Wandering around is free! The rides cost around $6 each. You can also find the Shakespeare Theater, the Children's Museum, and boat rides on the Pier.
  • Fireworks every Wednesday and Saturday which you can enjoy even if you don't opt for dinner cruise.
