An offshoot of chef Robert Wiedmaier’s popular Alexandria, Va. spot Brabo, the Brabo Tasting Room is a casual and lively restaurant located right in the heard of Old Town. Located inside a 150-year-old building adjacent to the Lorien Hotel & Spa, the intimate no-reservations restaurant is the perfect platform for Wiedmaier and chef de cuisine Chris Watson to display their ample talent and flair for the creative.

The menu of “sociable café fare” takes its inspiration from traditional Belgian cuisine as well as the bounty of the mid-Atlantic. The breakfast menu includes brioche French toast; Gruyère potato cakes topped with pork belly, poached eggs, and sabayon; a traditional Belgian waffle; and house-cured salmon. For dinner, there’s a nice selection of wood-fired tarts (think shredded roast chicken with spring onion and provolone), four varieties of mussels (including one with bacon and gorgonzola), a charcuterie platter, sandwiches (the Cuban, BBQ braised beef, and roast beef au jus are popular), and salads.

Foursquare Tips

  • "Slit horizontally, thin scallops buoy in a salty, airy broth radiating the nuttiness of Parmesan." - November 2012 Issue
  • The Black Diamond cocktail is legit.
  • The Bitches say: A-. Bravo, Brabo. A great place to celebrate an occasion or catch up with parents in town. The upscale, but not stuffy space is home to some of the most comfortable chairs.
  • This is the more expensive dining room, where they also have the Brasserie (bar or a communal table) to order a la carte or just have drinks. The Tasting Room next door is a more affordable option.
  • Their Brunch is everything!
  • Great food, amazing cocktails, and wonderful service. Definitely make a reservation though.
  • The food was good but the service was missing.
  • Both food and service are superb. Excellent crafted wine menu. The food presentation is very well accomplished. Certainly worth visiting on a special night.
  • Restaurant and bar are two separate venues, make sure to check which one you go into as the menus arent the same, great food though! Mussles are great!
  • amazing cuisine all around. creative and delicious

  • Did not meet expectation! Disappointing service. Almost left the restaurant.
  • Mussels! The meals are the among the best in Alexandria.
  • Agnolotti with lemon and ricotta was amazing. Be sure to get the ribeye medium rare as well
  • "Seek advice from sommelier Matt Carroll; he's sweeter than the formality of the dining room precludes."
  • Ask for the foie gras appetizer and get the sommelier to suggest an accompanying wine!
  • Short rib is awesome, skip the "au jus"
  • Always awesome.

  • The lemon poppy seed waffle dessert is to die for - I have a sweet tooth and this satisfies without being overly heavy.
