After eating her way through France, Ciara published her first piece of food writing in Gastronomica: an essay about the vitality of her local boulangerie during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, she has written for The Food Section, Smart Mouth, and Insider, among other outlets. Every so often, she burnishes her food writing credentials with a stint in urban farming or food service.

Ciara holds a bachelor's degree in economics and international relations from Mary Baldwin University and a master's degree in political science from the University of Florida.
