While nothing will replace the nostalgic pastime of baking holiday cookies, don't be so quick to pass up store-bought cookies. Grocery stores have stepped up their game in the cookie aisle with offerings such as patriotic sweets perfect for a summer cookout, spooky Halloween cookies, and Christmas confections that bring a little extra magic to the season. Some of these desserts can even give homemade cookies a run for their money. Whether you're on the hunt for a new festive treat, need a cookie for your upcoming seasonal party, or are prepping for a holiday cookie swap, look to your local grocery store or specialty shop.

With so many holiday cookie selections, it can be hard for cookie-obsessed shoppers to decide what to toss into the cart. We looked over reviews from customers on websites and across social media to narrow down the top five holiday cookies of 2026. So, before the next holiday hits and you're running to the store in a panic, refer to this sweet little cheat sheet.

OREO Monsters Collection

Cookie brands haven't wasted any time getting into the Halloween spirit. Many started rolling out scary treats as early as August. OREO's OREOiD Monsters are just in time for spooky season. The brand released a 12-pack featuring four hand-decorated Halloween monster Double Stuf and Golden sandwich cookies. All are coated in fudge and have candy googly eyes.

Frightening all who dare to unwrap, the designs include a purple sprinkle cookie with an eyeball, a mummy, an orange cookie with an eyeball, and a Frankenstein-esque green cookie with googly eyes and chocolate shavings for hair. Maybe not hair-raising scary and more on the spooky cute side, but these cookies are perfect for your Halloween shindig or to hand out in gift bags. This is the second Halloween-related release from OREO this year. In August, the brand launched its dark chocolate creme-filled ghosts, a collaboration with candy company Frankford.

You can snag a box for $39.99 directly on OREO's site.

Crumbl Halloween Confetti Milkshake Cookie

Known for its giant, rich, and eye-catching cookies, Crumbl Cookies releases new flavors every week. Throughout the year, the cookie brand releases trendy offerings, with some going viral, and unique options like an everything bagel cookie. In fact, some of its wildest, nostalgia-infused cookies came out this year. Crumbl also taps into the holidays, like eggnog tres leches and red velvet for Christmas, and a pumpkin pie cookie for Thanksgiving.

While it was only available for a week, the latest seasonal release celebrates spooky season and nostalgia flavors. The Halloween Confetti Milkshake Cookie was whipped up this month and features a chilled confetti sugar cookie with cake-flavored buttercream, decorated with purple and green sprinkles. The treat is topped off with a dollop of whipped cream. "That is straight up [a] massive slice of birthday cake," said one reviewer on YouTube. "If you love sugar and you love scooping up a layer of frosting off a birthday cake and eating it, you'll love this."

Pepperidge Farm Maggie's Apple Pie Cookies

Pepperidge Farm's Milano cookie may get all the love and limelight, but it's not the only one from the brand worth adding to your cart. Back in May, the sweets company released a patriotic cookie. The limited-edition Maggie's Apple Pie cookies were launched ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. And what's more American than apple pie?

The package is white with red and blue stars and an apple. The cookies feature an apple-cinnamon filling sandwiched between two buttery shortbread cookies that look like a mini apple pie. The top of the cookie even has an intricate lattice-work design. The cookies are named after the brand's founder, Margaret "Maggie" Rudkin. "I just bought some at the store and ate almost half a bag with a cup of coffee," one Reddit commenter said. "They are dangerous."

Kroger sells a 15-pack of Pepperidge Farm Maggie's Apple Pie Cookies for $4.99. Wegmans also carries them.

Sold through its private-label Member's Mark brand, the holiday cookie tray features 60 cookies total and five different flavors. It's an annual treat, and this year's flavors include red velvet, vanilla shortbread, s'mores, turtle brownie, and chewy ginger. The cookies have more than 1,300 5-star reviews on the Sam's Club website. "This cookie tray is one of the best I've ever bought," one reviewer said. "All the cookies were good. They were all soft and fresh. They taste homemade. I was worried I'd be wasting money, but this is one of the most successful bulk desserts I've bought. The s'mores and turtle were my favorite."

Sam's Club sells the holiday cookie tray for $19.93.
