Costco Shopper Repurposes Sorbet Container As Kitchen Decor

Costco, the warehouse shopping club, is a massive shopping center known for good deals and a wide selection of just about anything you could possibly imagine (if you've never been inside one, here's our guide for first time Costco shoppers). The retail giant has many frozen food options available — including our list of the best and worst Costco frozen foods. One that's particularly eye-catching is Island Way Sorbet, a variety pack of fruity sorbets (with a touch of cream) that come in handcrafted, real fruit shells.

The flavors are Zesty Pomegranate, Passionate Mango, Red Berry & Ruby Grapefruit, and Heavenly coconut, and each package retails for about $16.99.  A creative Costco shopper found a unique use for the coconut shells in particular, which is using them to store miscellaneous items in her kitchen. "The Island Way Sorbet coconut shells make great holders for random things," said one Reddit user, posting a photo of an uneaten sorbet alongside one that had been washed out and used for kitchen storage.

The Island Way coconut shells are pretty small and lightweight. Each only holds 128 grams of sorbet, so they can't be used for heavy duty items. But if you're looking for a place to store a few small pieces of bric-a-brac, they might be a great and environmentally-conscious option.

Other uses for Island Way Sorbet coconut shells

There are many ways to reuse containers from Costco, but Island Way Sorbet customers have taken the imagination to a whole new level. On the same thread, many Redditors mentioned using the shells for a wide variety of different purposes. Several people recommended using them as a helmet or hat for their pet (with some accompanying pictures as proof). One user said, "My wife painted them to look like ladybugs and stuck them in our garden." Another Redditor gave a laundry list of potential household uses for the shells: "You can make a key bowl, a little hat, a cereal bowl, a bikini, a bowl for your change, a little model of a turtle shell, a bowl for soup, etc."

Of course, not all the uses that Redditors mentioned were practical; some were just silly: "My wife always purposely eats a different flavor if I eat coconut, cause she knows that I like to clop the empty shells together rhythmically to sound like a galloping horse." Who knew that a frozen food container from Costco could inspire so much creativity?
