Burgers are tremendously popular. Seriously, according to The Post and Courier, Americans consume around 50 billion burgers a year, which is an impressive amount of ground beef. With such an enormous demand, it's not surprising that a lot of food chains have a burger on their menu. But not all fast food burgers are created equal, and there is one particular restaurant that had one of the least appealing options available: Arby's.

Founded in 1964, Arby's now maintains over 3,600 locations across the world. With an ad campaign famously claiming that it has "the meats," and a roast beef sandwich that remains a classic for a reason, it's understandable why Arby's would consider entering the world of burgers. But its recently discontinued Arby's Deluxe Burger was one carnivorous creation that didn't stand up against the competition.

When we ranked nine signature fast food burgers, the Deluxe Burger from Arby's came in dead last. So what is it that made this burger so unimpressive? Despite looking pretty good on the outside, we were less enthused with the actual taste. The burger featured a dry, tasteless patty, fake cheese, a weird texture to the lettuce, and an abundance of sweetness from the brioche bun and the specialty sauce. The Arby's Deluxe Burger was just a bit too dessert-like to rank any higher.

Consumer consensus on social media was decidedly mixed when it came to Arby's Deluxe Burger. A thread on Reddit has some positive reviews, with one user noting that they would buy it again. Another called it one of the best they'd experienced. But plenty of customers had issues, and one of the most common was the texture of the patty. "The consistency of the patty was really weird. Not really what I want in a burger," one noted. Another agreed, saying, "The patty, while thick and juicy, was very rubbery, and it was overly-seasoned on the inside rather than the outside."

Descriptions like these and negative reviews like ours may be part of the reason the Deluxe Burger lasted for such a short time.
