McDonald's Japan's Latest Drink Is Garnished With A Waffle Cone Full Of Popcorn

McDonald's Japan has unleashed some interesting limited-time offers in the past. Their cherry blossom drinks were lovely, and the fruit and cheese smoothie they unveiled in September were pretty well received. But now the company has come out with a line of popcorn-themed limited drinks wild enough to compete with Starbucks' Christmas Tree Frappuccino, because one of them comes garnished with a whole waffle cone full of popcorn.

According to Sora News 24, on January 5 McDonald's Japan's McCafé by Barista branches will be introducing three popcorn-themed drinks. The first is an Iced Caramel Popcorn Latte, which is an espresso drink mixed with caramel and popcorn syrups and cold milk, then topped with whipped cream, caramel sauce, and a handful of caramel corn.

The second drink is a Hot Caramel Popcorn Latte, which is basically the same thing, except it's mixed with steamed milk and served hot. It's also topped with caramel corn, though.

Where the collection really gets wild is the new Caramel Popcorn Frappe, which is a cold blended drink of espresso and caramel and popcorn syrups, topped with caramel-flavored whipped cream and caramel sauce. The whole thing is garnished with a genuine waffle cone full of caramel corn that sticks right out of the top of the mound of whipped cream on top.

How they get the cone to stay upright in the drink is a mystery that probably won't be solved until the drinks actually go on sale on January 5. The two lattes will sell for about $3.44 and the frappe will sell for about $4.40, and they're expected to be available until mid-February, at which point they'll be retired and probably join the long list of McDonald's menu items you'll never see again.
