This week and next there are plenty of food and drink events in the DMV to satisfy a range of palates, interests, and causes. You can help fight hunger and support the Capital Area Food Bank, be a part of a bento box class, get a few tips on holiday cocktail making, and drink bubbly for dinner, all across the District.

Holiday Food Drive at Firefly to Benefit Capital Area Food Bank
Beginning Tuesday, December 7 and ending Wednesday, December 23, Firefly will be collecting canned goods to support the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) in their fight to end hunger in the District. Come have a drink on them during happy hour. For every donation and purchase of a happy hour appetizer you will receive a free glass of red or white wine. Don’t forget to join CAFB, Fox 5, Giant Food, and CBS Radio on Friday, December 11, for the 14th-annual Stuff-A-Truck food drive.

Jūbako Cooking Class at Zentan
Get your Zen groove going and celebrate Japanese New Year with chef Matsuzaki at Zentan. He will be showcasing a class on how to make your own Jūbako, or extravagant bento box designed to feed a large group. After this class, you will be ready to host your own New Year’s feast that includes important symbolic foods that are key to good health and a happy new year. The class is being hosted, Saturday, December 19, from to 2 to 4:00 p.m. at Zentan and tickets cost $40 per person.

Melrose Georgetown Hotel to Host Holiday Cocktail Seminar

For those in search of fun cocktails for their holiday parties, this year’s Museum of the American Cocktail (MOTC) holiday cocktail seminar could hold the secret to your next signature drink. This is the event’s eighth year and it’s scheduled for Thursday, December 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Melrose Georgetown Hotel. It’s an experiential event that includes demos from D.C.'s finest craft mixologists, samples of their favorite holiday cocktails, and recipes to take home for your own bar. To stave off hunger, savory farm-to-fork appetizers will be served and tickets are $45 for non MOTAC members and $37.50 for MOTAC members and U.S. Bartenders Guild members.

If this sounds like fun, make your reservations now for the dinner being hosted at BRABO by Robert Wiedmaier in Old Town Alexandria. The event is Wednesday, December 9, from 7 to 9:00 p.m. and includes a menu and Champagne pairing and collaboration with chef Harper McClure and chef Wiedmaier.
