Who doesn’t like a little breakfast for dinner? It’s always more fun to switch up expectations, and Mercadito’s “Tacos for Strength” program will be doing just that with their July special.
Chef Rick Tramonto, who helms Tramonto’s Steak & Seafood in Chicago and Restaurant R’evolution in New Orleans, was prompted with the theme of a Sunday breakfast for his contribution to “Tacos for Strength.” He decided on a family favorite, initially inspired by his wife. Spicy chorizo is mixed into a heap of fluffy eggs, all topped off with a kick of spicy sriracha mayo.
Chef Tramonto mentioned that “breakfast for dinner” was always a popular request from his children. That made this zippy breakfast taco an easy choice when asked to contribute to the “Tacos for Strength” menu. He is the third Chicago chef to participate in the program this year.
“Tacos for Strength,” now in its third year, has been a deliciously successful fundraiser for Share Our Strength. Five percent of the proceeds from the specialty tacos go towards the campaign to provide meals for underprivileged children. To date Mercadito Chicago has donated over $7,000 to the cause.
