Now that fall is in full swing it’s time to go to the pumpkin and apple orchards and pick out the most beautiful fruit you can. When you get home with five pounds of apples, they need to be put to good use. You can make apple sauce, apple tarts, and the list goes on, but one classic way to use your apples is by making apple pie — it screams fall. Your house will be filled with the smell of tart apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The Daily Meal and the Culinary Content Network are embracing fall with sweet apple pie recipes, which is why we made it the theme of this week’s SWAT (Sharing With A Theme).
We asked The Daily Meal’s Culinary Content Network members to share their best apple pie recipes, and the results will make you forget about all of the other fall flavored desserts. You can make a traditional apple pie or get a little creative and make an apple pie cheesecake hybrid. Your apple pie creation options are endless.
Here are this week’s highlights:
Apple Pie Biscuits
This recipe doesn’t use a traditional pie crust, but rather uses biscuit dough to make an apple pie sandwich. Christina of But I’m Hungry blog essentially made an apple pie biscuit sandwich for you to enjoy. Everyone at the dinner table will have their own individual dessert. It may be better that way, so they won’t have to fight over the last “slice.”
Snicker Caramel Apple Pie
Apple Pie Mini Cheesecake Bites
Krystle Smith of Baking Beauty gives you a hybrid of two of our favorite desserts, apple pie and cheesecake, making an incredible concoction. The tart taste from the apples combines with the creamy filling of a cheesecake for a perfect sweet and creamy bite. Apple pie doesn’t always have to be apples and a pie crust — that’s why Krystle is the winner of this week’s SWAT.
Classic Apple Pie
Mon Petit Four
This apple pie recipe is everything classic apple pie should be. It has a perfectly sweet filling with warm spices that really make the apples come to life. The crust is not too sweet, not too salty; it's just right. It's also light and flaky just the way any pie crust should be. This will be your new go-to apple pie for the holidays! —Mon Petit Four
Brown Butter Apple Crisp
This is one of the easiest desserts you can throw together, and it makes the house smell 10 times better than any fall scented candle. The best part, you don’t even have to peel the apples. It brings great texture and keeps the apple slices from getting too mushy. – Coley Cooks
