The Major Flaw With HomeGoods That Shoppers Know Too Well

HomeGoods, the home furnishing store that's part of the same portfolio of brands as T.J. Maxx and Marshall's, has a lot of positives. It has low prices and a big selection, and among its aisles of jumbled merchandise, you might just find some gourmet foods or other treasures. Of course, if you're a regular HomeGoods shopper, you know that it's not all positives. There is one fatal flaw with the HomeGoods shopping experience that you might be familiar with — namely, that it's very challenging to find matching sets. 

Why is this the case? It has to do with the unique way HomeGoods operates. As its company website tells us: "Unlike other types of retailers that buy seasonally, we have new brand name home fashions arriving several times a week, with deliveries often containing thousands of items. Our rapidly changing assortments create that 'treasure hunt' shopping experience that our customers love."

This process allows HomeGoods to sell fancy cookware and other pricy items for cheap. But the ever-changing inventory does make it hard to score a complete set. In fact, social media is full of people who have found a beloved item at the store and are searching high and low for another one to go with it. Whether it's ornate dresser knobs, barstools, bathroom decor, or different types of chairs, this is a common phenomenon amongst HomeGoods shoppers.

Let's say you find a high-end kitchen item from HomeGoods that you absolutely love, but your nearest store only has one piece from that manufacturer. Is there anything you can do to try and score another one to complete the set? While it's certainly not a guarantee, you might possibly have some luck finding a match at another HomeGoods location. 

One user on Reddit offered this advice: "Locate the style number on the price tag. You can call stores (NOT at busiest times of day or on Saturday) and ask. Provide the associate with the style number, price and a detailed description and they may have what you're looking for. The store cannot hold it for you, so make sure you call only when you can go straight to the store to buy it, if they have it." If this doesn't work out, you may just find yourself posting on social media, hoping against hope that someone else has spotted the item you're looking for at some other HomeGoods location.
