Taste a Southern Original at Richmond’s Fire, Flour & Fork 2014
In September 2014, Colman Andrews, co-founder of Saveur and editorial director of The Daily Meal, declared that Richmond was the "next great American food city," and Fire, Flour & Fork aims to celebrate its induction. This four-day festival runs from October 30 to November 2, and reflects the city’s distinct culinary point of view, with a little help from chefs, artisanal food producers, writers, wine professionals, and friends from around the country.
Richmond’s burgeoning dining scene has been the engine driving the downtown’s economic growth and it has revitalized the city’s foodways and culture. Fire, Flour & Fork is the city’s way of saying thank you to the local food community for its role in this amazing transformation. The event is hosted by DNA, presented by Virginia Tourism Corporation; proceeds from all ticketed events benefit local charities such as the Downtown Neighborhood Association and other nonprofits that help young residents start careers in the culinary and hospitality industries. Beneficiaries also will include the scholarship fund at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College’s Center for Culinary Arts, VSU’s Hospitality Management Program, and the culinary arts programs in Richmond, Chesterfield, and Henrico public schools.
Guests can partake in: 13 dinners with Richmond and visiting chefs, six signature lunches, 18 book signings, 48 demos and talks, the Festival of the Hungry Ghosts, Mary Randolph's Moveable Feast, an artisanal tasting tent, and more
Richmond is an urban original that reflects its Southern roots, eclectic culinary influences, and the independence of its chefs, farmers, restaurateurs, and artisanal producers. This is a chance to share in unique food memories, explore new flavors, and enjoy the company of fellow food lovers.
