New York's Ocean Prime Launches Classy Pre-Theater Menu
The Big Apple is famous for quite a few things, but one of the most notable is undoubtedly Broadway Theater. And of course really good food. Given these facts, Ocean Prime New York restaurant and lounge has launched its classy pre-theater menu for those taking in a show later in the evening (because who would want to go to a performance hungry?). Known for its sleek, glamorous, and lively atmosphere, along with top-notch, upscale food and service, this Midtown restaurant offers fresh seafood, steaks, sushi, and cocktails.
Ocean Prime's special menu ensures that everyone in the theater community gets to their seats with satisfied stomachs (and snacks for intermission). Guests have the option of two courses and a side, and are sent off to Broadway with Ocean Prime's signature truffle popcorn.
Starters include French onion soup with brandy and aged Swiss, Caesar salad, and a house salad with goat cheese and apple. For the heartier second course, patrons each are presented with an eight-ounce filet, along with a choice of "surf." Options offered are shrimp scampi with white wine garlic sauce, crab cakes with a succotash and corn emulsion, and sea scallops with a cabernet jus. Lastly, guests can choose a side from a range of tasty options, including jalapeño au gratin and truffle mac and cheese.
This pre-theater menu is available from Tuesday through Saturday before 6:30 p.m. and all night on Sunday.
If you're not a theater person, don't worry; Ocean Prime's regular menu is also impressive. After being invited to dine at the trendy, modern establishment, I can attest to this! The cocktail list is on point. I really enjoyed the refreshing cucumber gimlet with lime and muddled cukes, as well as the prime margarita that was a citrusy mix of tequila, elderflower, and grapefruit.
Appetizers range from jumbo crab cakes and "surf n' turf," which was a mouthwatering combo of sea scallops and flavorful slow-braised short ribs, to goat cheese ravioli and white truffle caviar deviled eggs. Ocean Prime also has a sushi menu with numerous rolls like the lobster and "dynamite" roll and raw bar selection that offers items like fresh, chilled Maine lobster and king crab legs.
Main courses include an extensive list of exceptional seafood dishes like the Chilean sea bass with a Champagne truffle sauce; Arctic char with Brussels sprouts and quinoa; and yellowfin tuna with marble potatoes. Prime steaks, which are juicy and broiled at 1200 degrees F, range from my personal favorite, ribeye, to the classic filet mignon. Your steak can come various styles including topped with black truffle butter, encased in a blue cheese crust, and Oscar-style. Chicken, chops, and lamb main courses are offered as well.
Finally, there's 10 different dessert options to choose from. I had the creamy, salty-sweet chocolate peanut butter pie, which had a peanut butter mouse and a chocolate ganache, as well as the dense 10 layer carrot cake. They were amazing. Also offered is the baked Alaska with pound cake and Neapolitan ice cream and blueberry lemon cheesecake.
