New Zealand-Inspired Restaurant To Pop Up

On Thursday, July 4 at Pier 29, San Francisco locals can experience all of the flavor and atmosphere of a tropical New Zealand island right at home.

Waiheke Island Yacht Club, created by Tony Stewart, is aiming to recreate the island feel of Waiheke with head chef Hayden McMillen's style of using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Stewart owns Clooney in New Zealand and will bring the laid back attitude of the Kiwis over with him in his new establishment.

Waiheke Island, right off of New Zealand, is only a ferry ride away from Auckland. Inspired by the atmosphere and delicious fresh food of the area, the Yacht Club in San Francisco will feature furniture and decorations all in New Zealand style, with oak furniture and pottery brought over to recreate the setting. The bar will feature wines from Napa Valley, as well as craft beers and experts to assist with wine and food pairings.

After an incredibly damaging fire on Pier 29 last year, many have been looking to reconstruct in time for America's Cup this September, as spectators will populate the pier to view the Cup. Insurance money came through quickly, and now businesses like the Yacht Club can benefit from locals, as well as other visitors, trafficking the pier in the summer months. So no need to travel out of the country, just get to Pier 29 to experience the tropical ambiance of New Zealand.
