Hotel Chain Changes Mind About Banning Bacon
Do not mess with people's bacon. Not even a week after the Nordic Choice hotel chain announced that it would be banning bacon and sausages from its breakfasts in an attempt to focus on healthful, sustainable offerings for its guests, the outrage was so swift and severe that the chain has issued a hasty mea culpa and announced that it will be reinstituting the pork products immediately.
According to The Local, the hotel maintains that some customers liked the idea of switching the traditional, greasy, meat-heavy breakfast with something fresh, healthful, plant-based, and environmentally friendly. The healthful breakfasts were developed with Dr. Gunhild Stordalen, a physician, environmentalist, and wife of Peter Stordalen, the billionaire owner of the hotel chain. Still, while some customers reportedly liked the healthful menu, others were furious, and now processed meats are back on the menu.
"We at Comfort Hotels view ourselves as the small hotel rebel who wants to challenge the traditional," said brand director Camilla Bergman. "The response from guests shows that we very much did just that. Though many praised us for the measure, the visitors' feedback clearly emphasized that they still wanted bacon. Therefore we are bringing back the bacon."
