Gertler Brothers Host A Pop-Up Dinner

Food Network personality Adam Gertler and his brother, chef Keith Gertler, are teaming up for a pop-up dinner at Shade in Manhattan Beach, Calif., July 8.

The Gertler brothers are working with Shade's executive chef Chris Garasic to prepare the four-course dinner, which will be paired with local craft beers from El Segundo Brewing Company and Strand Brewing Company.

The family-style dinner begins with salmon rillettes with smoked salmon, crème fraîche, and herbs; mom's chopped liver with poached quail egg, pickled onions, and crispy chicken skin; and smoky eggplant dip with brioche toasts and pickled peppers. The second course consists of house-made pastrami sausage on rye bread with Thousand Island dressing and sauerkraut; grilled calamari salad with Thai basil, lemongrass, chiles, and rice noodles; and a chicken kielbasa with strand ale caramelized onions and coarse grain mustard served with garlic dill pickles.

The third course includes a whole smoked lamb shoulder with rosemary flatbread, salted cucumbers, herbed yogurt, and roasted red peppers, a chick pea fritter with crisp harissa, and heirloom white beans with chilled, diced tomato and grated feta. The $50 meal finishes with sangria-soaked watermelon slices and double-chocolate mini cupcakes.

The meal, which has seatings at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m., is presented family- style, with each item plated to serve four people.

The Gertler brothers are looking for a permanent home in Los Angeles' South Bay area for their gastropub barbecue-inspired restaurant concept, Gertler's Kitchen.
