Feast Portland: USA Pears Night Market

Set outdoors at Zidell Yards on the banks of the Willamette River, USA Pears Night Market gave attendants the impression that they had been transported to a foreign country to indulge in local street food. Diners were bathed in the glow of thousands of colored lights and lanterns while fire dancers and music added to the exotic vibe.

Twenty big-name chefs from Portland, Ore. and beyond provided tasty tidbits with international flavors to a sold-out crowd. Some of the culinary dignitaries were Anita Lo of Annisa in New York, Lee Ann Wong of Koko Head Café in Honolulu, Greg Denton of Ox, and Andy Ricker of Pok Pok, both located in Portland.

Chef Lo's dish of grilled quail with celeriac and Szechuan pepper, and chef Ricker's khao phat buu, Thai fried rice with crab, were some of the most popular dishes. Other notable and interesting offerings included a blood popsicle from PUBLIC in New York, albacore tuna with sea vegetables from Restaurant Beck in Depot Bay, Ore., and an Indian curry Scotch eggs from Bollywood Theater in Portland.
