And Boston's Best Burger Is... The Viagra At Mr. Bartley's Burgers
We at The Daily Meal recently published our 101 Best Burgers in America for 2015. Building on last year's list, we assembled a poll that included nearly 250 burgers from all across the country, from Hollywood, Florida, to Anchorage, Alaska. 70 burger experts then voted for their favorites, and we published the top 101. Three from Boston made the cut, but we noticed that there was a new highest-ranked burger in town.
Bostonians are intimately familiar with the struggle of obtaining and retaining an honorable title, as the Bruins, the Celtics, the Patriots, and the Red Sox have all won or been in heated contention for pennants, cups, and bowls in the past decade. There is one fierce local competition that not all the city's resident may be up-to-speed with, however, and that's the one for the title of Boston's best burger. Last year's winner was The Big Tasty at J.M. Curley, but our ranking this year revealed a new top burger: The Viagra at Mr. Bartley's.
Fifty-five years ago, Joe and Joan Bartley took over a small convenience store facing Harvard Yard with the mission to perfect the great American hamburger. The Boston Herald seemed to think they'd done it when they proclaimed them the home of the best burger in Boston, and locals agree: There's almost always a line to score one of the interestingly named burgers, such as The Hashtag and the Gay Marriage. We suggest taking a deep breath and going for The Viagra: a seven-ounce freshly ground chuck steak burger dressed with blue cheese dressing, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. You'll probably have stopped blushing by the time your order is up. It's so good, it came in at #44, topping the Local Grass-Fed Burger Craigie On Main (#48) and last year's winner, The Big Tasty at J.M. Curley, which came in at #51 this year which means that, according to our burger experts, Mr. Bartley's serves the best burger in Boston.
