You Can Buy A Bicycle Made From Whiskey Casks For $7,000

Sure, you've sipped two fingers of Glenmorangie neat, working your way through all its expressions. And maybe you've visited the distillery in Scotland. Maybe you've even listened to a jazz composition inspired by the whisky. But can you really say you've experienced the Scotch until you've ridden a bicycle made of its whiskey casks?

The Scottish distiller uses each American white oak cask only twice to create its Original expression — then tries to find a new life for the staves after they leave the distillery. This year, the partner for #BeyondtheCask is Portland, Oregon-based Renovo, which specializes in wooden bikes. These limited editions are sturdy enough for most riding conditions and feature premium details from the handgrips to the seat.

The barrel staves are kiln-fired and sanded down to create the hollow frames, each of which takes 20 hours to craft. The 18-pound bicycles are each hand numbered and marked with the Glenmorangie signet. At approximately $7,000 each, these won't necessarily be for your muddiest outdoor adventures, but they sure are beautiful.

Last year, Glenmorangie partnered with British eyewear designer Finlay & Co. to sell the world's first Scotch sunglasses, made from those same barrel staves.
