Boba tea may have gotten its start in Taiwan, but its popularity has exploded across the globe. One of the biggest draws for fans of the drink is that each bubble tea beverage can be completely customized to everyone's personal flavor preferences. Most shops utilize a variety of teas, popping pearl flavors, milks, and more.

But if you find yourself wanting bubble tea, trips to your local boba shop can get pricey. However, you may be hesitant to stock up on huge quantities of the popping pearls — especially if you love taste-testing new flavors and don't want so much space in your kitchen to be monopolized by the drink's ingredients.

Fortunately, Costco's new at-home instant boba tea product can help you save a few dollars by making it yourself in just a few quick and easy steps. And with the included single-serve pouches, it will save your kitchen space, too.

Easily make boba at home

You can make boba tea quickly and easily at home, thanks to Costco's latest product. The Taiwan Boba Milk Tea, made by J Way Foods, features 10 pouches of boba and 10 pouches of tea in a variety of flavors for $14.79. The flavors include passionfruit-pineapple green tea with fruit boba, classic milk tea with brown sugar boba, crème brûlée milk tea and caramel boba, and taro milk tea with brown sugar boba.

The boba comes packed in plastic pouches, which are microwaved for 20 seconds when you're ready to start making your drink, allowing them to develop the soft, chewy texture they're known for. Then, add in the flavored drink powder to hot water, and stir until it is completely dissolved. You can quickly cool it by adding ice and either cold water or milk. Add the pouch of boba and enjoy your drink with the included oversized paper straw.

The box makes crafting boba easy

Although the drink experience isn't exactly the same as ordering from your favorite bubble tea shop, this kit will leave your wallet a little fuller while allowing you to enjoy boba from the comfort of your home. One YouTube reviewer said of the box, "I would say, definitely worth it. Go give them a try." His only complaint? He wanted more of each serving.

If you find yourself wanting even more of one specific flavor from this variety pack, J Way Foods sells single-flavor instant boba packets on its website, starting at $10 for a three-pack. And if you want your drinks to feel more homemade, the company also sells packages of just the boba popping pearls.

Don't have access to a Costco membership? The brown sugar flavor can also be purchased from Walmart and the variety pack from Amazon, albeit at a higher price point.
