The One Coffeehouse Chain Duff Goldman Can't Get Enough Of

Duff Goldman's love of creating food in the kitchen started early, according to Food Network. He was just four years old when his mom found him watching a cooking show on television, holding a meat cleaver. By the second grade, he knew he wanted to pursue a career in the culinary arts. He got a job at a local bagel shop at 14, and his experimentation almost got him fired: his boss didn't appreciate that he was making too-big sandwiches.

Goldman studied at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone and worked at a few different restaurants before becoming a personal chef in 2000. But Goldman wanted to share his talents with the world, and in 2002, he opened Charm City Cakes in Baltimore. His bakery's success earned him a television show on Food Network called "Ace of Cakes," and he went on to open a second bakery location in Los Angeles.

Goldman may be an expert at baking up his own treats, but there is one specific treat he loves to indulge in.

Goldman indulges his sweet tooth here

Duff Goldman might be a baking whiz, but that doesn't mean he'll turn down the opportunity to enjoy some treats from other bakeries. In fact, he actually has a fondness for one place in particular. The staff of "The Rachael Ray Show" asked a variety of different celebrity chefs about their favorite fast-food restaurants, and Goldman stated that his favorite was none other than Krispy Kreme.

Back in 2018, Goldman actually worked with Krispy Kreme to create a giant birthday cake, celebrating the brand's 81st anniversary, via Facebook. The tiered cake featured three layers, and the middle cake was decorated with a mix of Krispy Kreme's Original Glazed donuts and Glazed Confetti donuts.

Goldman shared a photo of the creation to his Twitter page, asking his followers which were better: a cake donut, or his donut-themed cake. He even went on a tour across the country, doing 14 television interviews and three radio talks about the brand, according to 4Media Group.

He took inspiration from the donut shop

Goldman showed off his "Ultimate Donut Cake" on KTNV via YouTube. He told the interviewer that he was contacted by Krispy Kreme to celebrate the chain's 81st birthday, and he suggested combining their "amazing" donuts with his cake-baking skills to create the sweet treat. He explained that he used inspiration from the brand's packaging to decorate the cake's top and bottom layers, and added a decorative Krispy Kreme logo.

The first Krispy Kreme location opened its doors in July 1937, and the smell was reportedly so enticing to people passing by the bakery, owner Vernon Rudolph had to cut a hole in the wall to sell his donuts. The company created a dry donut mix to distribute amongst its locations, guaranteeing consistency in flavor at each location. Today, there are over 1,400 Krispy Kreme locations across 30 countries, and many Krispy Kreme branded products can be purchased in grocery and convenience stores, via Investor's Business Daily.
