Weekly Opening Report: The Week Of September 9, 2013
Every week, we take a look at some of the restaurants that have opened or will soon open across the country. Here's this week's roundup:
Chicago, IL
J. Rocco, The Bar: The J. Rocco restaurant in River North will be unveiling their second space soon, according to a press release. This upstairs establishment is designed to have more of a nighttime, relaxed setting rather than a typical sit-down restaurant. The space will also be available to be rented out for private functions and events.
Denver, CO
Acorn: The team responsible for OAK at fourteenth opened their second restaurant Acorn, according to a press release. This location features American cuisine and extensive drink selections from ingredient-driven cocktails to artisan beers and wines. At the center of the restaurant is an oak-fired oven and grill, just like its sister restaurant.
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Bar Stache: Reported by Eater, Bar Stache, located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, will open on September 27. Food won't be available until later, but they will have a mixology program. Mykel Stevens, the owner, will feature "prohibition-style drinks like whiskey-based Manhattans" and night entertainment such as cabaret and art shows.
Houston, TX
Trenza: Trenza, a "rule breaking" Latin and Indian infused restaurant, will be opening in October, reported by Eater. The owner, Susie Jimenez, a former Food Network Star contestant, says her favorite item on the menu is the shrimp dumplings with "soy, lime, cilantro, garlic, shallots, and curry."
White Plains, NY
42 The Restaurant: The Westchester favorite reopened after a month-long redesign project, according to a press release. The new contemporary and chic vibe accents chef Anthony Goncalves's New American cuisine. 42 The Restaurant is located at the White Plains Ritz-Carlton.
New York, NY
Pagani: Multiple regions of Italy can be found on Bleecker Street now that Massimo Lusardi has opened his second restaurant, according to a press release. Pagani features dishes such as a Betta's papperdale Bolognese and carrot and chive tagliatelle.
Picnic: American cuisine gets a Midwestern twist at this new East Village restaurant,. According to a press release, chef Nicholas Nostadt created menu items such as mussels with hard cider, apricot nectar, and Dijon cream, a pulled pork sandwich with root beer BBQ and roasted corn and cabbage slaw, and a classic Midwestern favorite: puppy chow.
Wafels & Dinges Café: The beloved waffles truck has finally gone brick and mortar. According to a press release, the waffle truck opened a café on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and sells coffee, ice cream, and milk shakes along with their popular sweet or savory waffles.
Garden City, NY
Polo Steakhouse: A new steakhouse will open in October at the historic Garden City Hotel, according to a press release. Some of the steak options include a bone-in filet mignon, steak au poivre, and Colorado lamb chops.
Philadelphia, PA
Ocean Prime: Cameron Mitchell's award-winning American supper club is now open in Philadelphia's Center City, according to a press release. His surf and turf-type menu features items like a "smoking" shellfish tower, pork porterhouse, and a black truffle mac and cheese. There are 10 other locations open across the country.
Atlanta, GA
Grindhouse Killer Burgers: On Friday, September 13, Grindhouse Killer Burgers opened, according to Eater. Owner Alex Broustein has opened four other Ground House Burgers, but this is the only one not located in Athens. You can build your own burger, order up to a variety of fifteen beers on tap, and boozy milkshakes.
San Francisco, CA
Bergerac: The new bar will open in SOMA on Sept. 21, according to a press release. Along with a wide variety of cocktails, Bergerac will also serve small dishes such as a Tuna 'Kitfo' and a Bergerac Egg, which is a freezer cured yolk wrapped in black pudding and fried in beer as a tempura.
Café Claude Marina: The new French-inspired bistro will be opening at the Marina District on Sept. 18, according to a press release. This location will feature a new beverage program, including a low-alcohol cocktail list. This will be the sister location to the Financial District outpost.
Tender Greens: The sustainable foods restaurant will open their second location on Setp. 16 in the Financial District, according to a press release. Their flagship location in Walnut Creek offers soups, salads, and hot items like their Chipotle Barbecue Chicken. The new location will offer charcuterie and sausage-making classes by chef Sean Canavan.
Cambridge, MA
Beat Hotel: According to Eater, Beat Hotel opened on Thursday September 12. There will be live music every night, with many dining rooms and bars available to sit, eat, and listen to the music.
