Website's Users Give Highest Marks To Several Philadelphia Restaurants

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Diners on Open Table, the restaurant reservation website, are recognizing Philadelphia's great food scene.
According to Open Table's annual "Diners' Choice Awards" list of Top 100 Fit for Foodies Restaurants in America, Pennsylvania was tied for the second most restaurants on the list, at 13 — with 12 of them here in Philadelphia.
Caroline Potter, "chief dining officer" with Open Table, says five million restaurant reviews were evaluated. She says these days, chefs don't have to wait years and years for recognition.
"The absolute majority of restaurants on this list have opened since 2011," she notes. "Some of them even opened their doors in 2014."
And one of the reasons she believes Pennsylvania did so well has to do with our proximity to farms:
"Farmers grow very particular things for their menus, and I think it's showing — you know, this amazing bounty right in your backyard."
Interestingly, Potter points out, most of the restaurants on the list were mid-range as far as price. And small, casual, or BYOB.
"A lot of the chefs are on the younger side — younger than 40, some younger than 30 — and so I think that's a reflection of the way that generation wants to dine," she tells KYW Newsradio.
The 12 Philadelphia restaurants that made the Open Table list were:
- The Farm and the Fisherman
- Fond
- Laurel
- Mica
- The Pickled Heron
- Sbraga
- Talula's Daily
- Townsend
- Vedge
- Vernick Food & Drink
- Will BYOB
- Zahav
