Like A Virgin.. Airline Food Porn For The Very First Time!
Like a virgin. Airline food porn for the very first time!
I know what you're thinking...that IS impossible. Well guess what? IT ISN'T! I took my 'virgin' flight on Virgin America recently from Boston to Los Angeles AND now I'm writing my 'virgin' post as an inflight amenities critic – so HA.
OK, I'll be honest, I heard rumors that Virgin America is a great airline and was psyched to get a reasonable fare to fly with them. What I didn't realize was how sensitive they would be to my needs and found it tantalizing, since this was my first time and all. For starters, I loved the fun attitude of the flight crew and the clever safety video. It's good to get off on the right foot when you are dealing with a virgin.
I really enjoyed staying connected the entire flight too. Virgin America offers gogo WiFi and since it was nearly six hour flight to Los Angeles, I needed to be productively satisfied. Boy, was I ever. Besides getting some much-needed work done, I also spent time tweeting with Virgin America as well as Inflight Feed and another Twitter traveler, Mrs. O Around the World.
A banter began about using Red – Virgin America's inflight interactive entertainment system. Not only can you watch movies, TV or listen to music but you can also shop, chat with other people on the plane and can order snacks, meals & drinks that will be brought to your seat after you pay using your credit card like you are shopping online. LOVE! Between WiFi & Red, I was able to solicit menu recommendations and sample several inflight food options.
I tried the cheese box and Thai veggie wrap as well as the Wynn Red Snapper specialty cocktail.
Having the cheese box was like a romantic picnic in the park. It included red and green grapes, dried apricots and figs, cheese samplings of cheddar, swiss, brie, gouda & pepper jack served with rosemary-herbed crackers.
My next bit of dining foreplay was imbibing the tasty twist on a bloody mary, the Wynn Red Snapper. This Virgin America version takes slightly spicy bloody mary mix, lemon & lime and pairs it with Bombay Sapphire gin. YUMMY!
Finally, I finished my food-gasmic inflight experience with Virgin America's Thai veggie wrap. This spinach tortilla filled wrap has all kinds of good-for-you vegetables like chickpeas, black beans, edamame, carrots & cabbage and it's spiced up with fresh cilantro, mint & basil. The asian-style vinaigrette and Thai pepper spread finish it off to make it really Thai-tasty.
It was so fantastic to be able to ask my well-traveled friends on Twitter what I should order while flying 38.000 feet above and then just push a few buttons to have it served at my seat. Great personal customer service! AND I'll be honest, ALL the food was seductively scrumptious. I would order the Wynn Red Snapper every Sunday brunch, if possible. And, that Thai wrap was so fresh and delicious. Really, I'd love to put that into my weekly lunch rotation. I guess I need to fly cross-country with Virgin America weekly for all my senses to be satiated.
