In case you missed it, we recently published three similar lists (20 Things Only People From the Midwest Say, 20 Things Only People From New England Say, 20 Things Only People From the South Say), but this one is a different animal. Folks from the West Coast don’t have nearly as many unique colloquialisms, regional slang, or accents when compared to the rest of the country. And when they do, it’s usually limited in geographic scope. For instance, what they say in Southern California (which will come up a lot in this list) might not be the same as in the north, and some Pacific Northwest terms are unheard of in other parts of the coast.
Still, the diverse West and its residents have carved out some language to call their own, often because they invented something or experience aspects of life totally different than what you might find elsewhere — making these words and phrases a necessity.
This might be our most divisive list yet, but for better or for worse, here are 10 things only people from the West Coast say.
