Wines that have, plus some that are working on it

Very few of the things that make our lives better suffer through such a violent and tumultuous life as wine. Neither food, music, literature nor art (which all tend to evolve slowly), ever really abandon their roots in the way that wine does.

Wines from one decade to another can share very little in common. Few producers persevere with a style that has fallen out of fashion, and while there is a recent wholesale renaissance on that front, it has been far from the norm.

No, wine is a moving target influenced by climate, science, man and women alike, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad. What and who transforms wine can sometimes be surprising, and once their good deeds are done they can frequently fail victim to their own success, but let’s not begrudge them that. Let’s all rejoice in the transformation of wine and realize that the pendulum of change will always swing back and forth. Our fortune is simply being in the right place at the right time.
